We are Hiring!

Climate Change Community Engagement Officer

About Us

Hello and thank you for your interest in Torbay Climate Action CIC. Below you will find more details about our organisation, our passionate goals and the key elements of this role opportunity.

We are at a pivotal moment: the climate and biodiversity crises are deepening, and inequalities are even more marked in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now is the time for citizen action!

TORBAY CLIMATE ACTION CIC is a grassroots purpose-led Community Interest Company formed by a group of passionate and concerned citizens in response to Torbay Council declaring a Climate Emergency in 2018.  We aim to bring together individuals and organisations in Torbay to educate, inspire and create solutions for climate mitigation and adaptation.  Our goal is  to harness all the work happening locally and to inspire further creative actions to help Torbay  and its residents adapt to a changing planet.

A key way in which we are doing this is by creating regular community engagement sessions, designed to share knowledge (through themed speaker events), explore alternative ways of living and consuming (through repair cafes, swap shops and food waste prevention initiatives, etc. ) and galvanize community ideas to bring to reality, for example how can we increase community access to green spaces?

What We Offer

This is an exciting opportunity for a like-minded individual to join our team at a critical moment in history. This is your chance to be part of a community-led voice, calling for and taking action towards a better future for all.

We are embedding core understanding and knowledge of the issues our whole planet faces (through initiatives such as Carbon Literacy Project training), and combining it with local understanding and inspiration to create relevant, positive and hopeful community engagement across Torbay. These goals of a better future start with our own team. We are a welcoming and inspired small group of local residents, from various social and professional backgrounds, that are now looking for an additional member of our crew.

We aim to provide a kind and fair working environment that is autonomous, collaborative, and non-judgmental, which challenges us to be the best we can, and which encourages our members and associates to create solutions to the challenges we face as the climate changes.

Torbay Climate Action CIC values and respects all differences in people (seen and unseen) and welcomes applications from all backgrounds and communities.  We are committed to having a team that is made up of diverse skills, experiences and abilities. So if you are not 100 percent sure that you meet all the requirements but believe you could excel in this role, we encourage you to apply and tell us about your experience and what you hope to bring to this role.
